Amorgos! The island of endless blue! A place with great, wild beauty, deep crystal clear waters, which can enchant you the visitor from the first sight. The capital of Amorgos, known as Chora, located in the interior of the island, 5 km from the port Katapola and 12 km from the port of Aegiali. It is located on a rocky hill with a Venetian castle from the 13th century to dominate the top. Nobody can see from the sea, because it was built that way from fear that existed in the old days for pirates.
It is a beautiful city, undoubtedly one of the most charming of Cyclades, with all the traditional architectural characteristics: small white houses, churches with cute bell towers and light domes, labyrinth narrow streets that climb up the castle, through small neighborhoods , picturesque windmills, etc.
In Gavras Tower, an 18th century mansion, houses the museum with finds from excavations made in the islands .In a short distance from Chora, there is a Byzantine monastery of Panagia Chozoviotissas, on a steep cliff, of 300 meters. There yo can see the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary that is celebrated on 21 November.
