The tram is beyond doubt the most important transportation system in Istanbul because it is very fast and crosses the entire city. It also makes stops in all its central spots and attractions. The line Eminonu-Kabatas is of service for many visitors.
The city has a funicular from where you can travel from one part of the city to the other and most specifically to the well known Taksim square.

In the busy Istiklal Caddesi or Independence Avenue with the many shops there is a very old tram that goes up and down the avenue.
Naturally the city is full of buses that you can use for your transports and taxis with very friendly and cheerful drivers. The tickets for the public transportation are not at all expensive neither are the taxi fares.

But in order to truly get to know Istanbul and wander around its small narrow streets and forgotten cobblestone roads you must walk. It is very easy to walk around Istanbul because it has beautiful streets, wide pavements and all its squares are full of colorful flowers.
